1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how AceFlix ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application ("App"). By using AceFlix, you agree to this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account and Authentication Information
To use AceFlix, you must sign in. We use Firebase Authentication to manage sign-in and account identity. As part of the authentication process, Firebase Authentication stores an account identifier (UID) and your email address.
AceFlix does not store your email address in its own application databases for profile purposes. Your email address is handled by the authentication provider as part of sign-in.
2.2 Local Profile Information
The app may ask you to choose a username. Your username is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted as part of normal app usage.
2.3 Usage and Session Information
We use Firebase Analytics to collect app usage events, such as screens viewed, features used, session activity, and learning activity. This information helps us understand how the app is used and improve its features. Users cannot opt out of this analytics collection within the app.
We do not intentionally include personal profile details, such as usernames or email addresses, or add device information to the analytics events we define.
2.4 Requests to Our Server
When the app sends requests to our server, it includes your UID so we can authenticate the request and protect the service from abuse. This UID is used to verify that requests are made by a signed-in user and to apply service safeguards.
2.5 Diagnostic and Log Information
To operate and secure our backend services, we collect diagnostic information such as request metadata (for example, endpoint, method, and response status) and error logs. These logs are used for reliability, debugging, abuse prevention, and performance monitoring.
We do not intentionally include personal profile details in logs. However, in rare cases, logs may contain an account identifier (such as your UID) as part of error reporting or troubleshooting.
3. How We Use Information
We use information for the following purposes:
- To provide core app functionality and respond to your requests
- To authenticate requests and protect against abuse or misuse
- To understand product usage through non-identifying analytics and improve the service
- To operate, secure, monitor, and debug our backend services
- To provide customer support and respond to feedback (if submitted)
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share information as needed to operate the app, such as:
- Authentication: Firebase Authentication processes sign-in and stores your UID and email address for account access.
- Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to collect app usage and engagement information.
- Service monitoring and logging: We use service providers to monitor backend reliability and diagnose errors (for example, log collection and error reporting).
- Content providers: The app uses third-party services (such as TMDB and OpenSubtitles) to retrieve media metadata and subtitle-related content.
These third-party services may process limited technical information necessary to deliver their functionality. We do not intentionally share local profile details (such as your username) as part of normal use.
5. Data Storage
AceFlix is designed to minimize cloud storage of user profile information. Some information is processed locally on your device, and some information is processed by third-party service providers (such as authentication, analytics, and service monitoring) to operate the app. We take reasonable measures to limit data collection to what is necessary.
6. Children’s Privacy
AceFlix is intended for users aged 9 and above and does not provide child-directed services.
7. Permissions
The app requires Internet access to function. The app may also request permission to send notifications. You can enable or disable notifications at any time through the app’s settings. No other sensitive permissions (such as camera, storage, microphone, or location) are used.
8. Account Deletion & Data Retention
You may delete your account from within the app (where available). Account deletion is intended to be immediate and irreversible.
- Deleting your account removes your authentication record (including UID and email association) from Firebase Authentication.
- After deletion, you will not be able to restore your account or regain access to account-linked data.
- Logging out is not the same as deleting your account.
If you contact us for support or privacy requests, we may retain communications as needed to respond and to maintain service integrity.
9. Future Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information from unauthorized access or misuse. However, no system is completely secure, and by using the app, you understand and accept this risk.
11. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. Any legal matters related to data protection will be handled under Sri Lankan jurisdiction.
